# ReedSCAN > ReedSCAN is a barcode and QR code scanner SDK for web apps, by IUJI Group. It reads codes from the device camera inside the browser, on phones and computers, with no app to install and no server to call. Install it from npm as `@reedscan/core` (any framework) or `@reedscan/react` (a React component). ## What it does - Reads QR Code, Data Matrix, Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8, UPC-E, PDF417, Aztec, Code 39, Code 93, Codabar and ITF. - Draws a steady box on every code in view and follows it as the camera moves; reads many codes at once and reports each once. - Decodes in background web workers (WebAssembly), so the camera view stays smooth on older phones. - Works offline: decoding happens on the device, and the license key is checked in the browser. The decoder file can be self-hosted. - Camera pictures and scanned values never leave the device. - Browsers: Chrome and Edge 99+, Safari 16.4+ (iOS and macOS), Firefox 114+, Samsung Internet 18+. The page must be served over HTTPS. ## Install ```sh npm install @reedscan/core ``` ```js import { createScanner } from "@reedscan/core"; const scanner = createScanner(document.querySelector("#scanner"), { licenseKey: "RS1.…", onScan: (scan) => console.log(scan.format, scan.value), }); button.onclick = () => scanner.start(); ``` React: ```jsx import { BarcodeScanner } from "@reedscan/react"; console.log(scan.value)} /> ``` ## Licensing - Evaluation: free, no key, every feature. Unlimited on localhost and local network addresses; elsewhere a watermark and 60 seconds of scanning per page load. - Production: a license key locked to your domains (for example `acme.com, *.acme.com`), checked offline, with 14 days' grace after its end date. - Get a key: hello@reedscan.com ## Comparisons Each compares documented features only, citing the vendor's own pages (checked 3 November 2026). - [ReedSCAN vs Scandit](https://reedscan.com/compare/scandit): Scandit is a broad suite with native SDKs, ready-made AR components and ID capture, priced per device or scan by quote. ReedSCAN is web-only, with a 0.9 MB engine (Scandit's is about 7.7 MB per variant) and an offline license check that sends nothing back. - [ReedSCAN vs Scanbot](https://reedscan.com/compare/scanbot): Scanbot adds document, ID and text scanning, with a flat annual fee from about $2,500. ReedSCAN does barcodes and 2D codes only, with a 0.9 MB engine (Scanbot's barcode engine is 10.5 MB or more). - [ReedSCAN vs Dynamsoft](https://reedscan.com/compare/dynamsoft): Dynamsoft reads 50+ symbologies and has server SDKs, with usage-based plans from $1,499 a year validated through a license server. ReedSCAN reads 13 mainstream symbologies with a key verified offline and no metering. ## Links - [Product page](https://reedscan.com/) - [@reedscan/core on npm](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@reedscan/core) - [@reedscan/react on npm](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@reedscan/react)
